What does Holistic mean?
Holistic means to consider the wholeness & wellness of the body, mind & spirit as three separate but equal areas that make up our happiest, healthiest self. When we set aside time, routines, & budgets to include taking care of each part of our wholeness, we embrace what is important in life. When we are not well, or unhappy, or tired, our skin loses its transparency & energy. Our skin mirrors our life. When we are happy, our skin literally glows!
What lead you to holistic beauty?
I've never been mainstream in my beauty philosophy, but its only now that I truly have the confidence to step out from the crowd & follow my own beliefs. My commitment to Holistic Beauty Therapy is more of a reawakening & rediscovery.
How does modern day life contribute to a culture of quick fixes in the beauty industry?
I was side-tracked in my early career by promises & impressive claims of the wider beauty industry. Salons offered harsh chemical peels & microdermabrasion, & I witnessed skin shedding like a snake, & it just didn't make sense to me at all. People were praising it for eliminating pigmentation etc, but all I could see was how it was leaving skin vulnerable & actually accelerating ageing. I'm convinced that nature has all the answers.
How has your practice evolved to suit today’s busy client?
Life is often busy & stressful & we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be ever-achieving. Women in particular have so many roles to fulfil & they will often put themselves at the bottom of the list. Stress isn’t all bad but when its unrelenting it has a negative influence on physical & mental health. Rest & wellbeing aren’t priorities & there’s allot to distract us from being in touch with our bodies & inner-selves: coffee, energy drinks, screen addiction & so on…
The food we eat affects every single cell in the body, so it follows that eating nutritious food will optimise all aspects of our health, including the skin. I find clients respond best by making small achievable changes that gradually become habit. Like adding Bestow Beauty Oil or Powder to a morning smoothie for example or replacing a caffeine drink with one of the Bestow Organic teas; a small but beneficial change that's easy to make. I love that Bestow provides support in the form of real food supplements. This combined with using professional topical skincare like Image & using pure mineral makeup like Youngblood. I've seen brilliant improvements for my clients with chronic-dryness, rosacea, acne, psoriasis, eczema, & peri-oral dermatitis. It’s also brilliant for supporting skin through hormonal changes.

Why is it important to you to create a peaceful atmosphere at your salon?
A calm, peaceful place gives people a mini retreat, space to breathe, valuable time when nothing is being asked of them, so they can just relax. I see so many tired, frazzled people that are wired & bombarded, over-scheduled & exhausted, & not taking care of themselves. I want clients to take time for self-care, to balance stress with relaxation & recharge. We need to embrace a balance between doing & being.
